First mushrooms

This year the mushrooms arrived much sooner.

It was a surprise to see so many mushrooms this time of year.

Usually they start to show up only at the middle of September, in the cold of the Autumn, not in the Summer. I know there have been some days of rain recently, particularly at the higher altitudes of Madeira Island, but we are still in the Summer.

Last weekend, in a warm and sunny day, I was wearing a T-shirt, collecting some sweet blackberries, when I started to notice that mushrooms were all over the place… dozens of mushrooms, several species. This is undoubtedly an atypical year for mushrooms. So many mushrooms in August is not common.

All the photos below were taken last weekend in Madeira.
